Addressing Traffic Congestion: Real Solutions, Not Empty Promises
If you live in Lee County, you don’t need a report to tell you traffic is getting worse—you experience it every day.
Whether it’s getting to work, heading out for dinner, or just trying to enjoy a night downtown, traffic congestion has become one of the biggest frustrations for residents across our community. And for many, it feels like the problem keeps getting worse with no clear plan to fix it.
We can do better.
Fixing traffic isn’t just about widening roads. In many cases, it’s about making smarter, more efficient use of the infrastructure we already have. That means improving traffic signal timing, redesigning problem intersections, and prioritizing projects that actually reduce congestion—not just move it somewhere else.
It also means focusing on execution. Too many projects are approved but delayed, leaving residents stuck in the same traffic year after year. We need to accelerate the projects that are already funded and ensure they’re completed on time.
And for major corridors, we must work hand-in-hand with the Florida Department of Transportation and the Streets Division of the City of Fort Myers to make sure all roads are part of the solution—not part of the problem.
Traffic may be a challenge in a growing county, but it doesn’t have to be a way of life. With better planning, smarter investment, and real accountability, we can ease congestion and give residents their time back.
Because at the end of the day, this isn’t just about traffic—it’s about quality of life!
